Lincoln updates Nautilus for 2024

- By G. Chambers Williams III

The big news for the Lincoln brand is the newest version of the Aviator three-row midsize crossover utility vehicle, which will make its debut this summer as a 2025 model.

That follows on the heels of the introduction of the redesigned Nautilus for 2024.

These are two of the four SUVs that make up the current Lincoln lineup, which also included the compact Corsair five-passenger crossover, and the full-size, three-row Navigator sport-utility vehicle, Lincoln’s flagship model.

Lincoln updated the Navigator just two years ago, and for 2023, the Corsair got its own makeover.

Lincoln Nautilus

Lincoln’s Nautilus midsize, five-passenger luxury SUV entered its second generation for 2024 with a new design, an available hybrid powertrain, and new connected features including Lincoln BlueCruise hands-free highway driver-assist technology.

The automaker says its “elevating the notion of sanctuary” with its newest generation of the Nautilus, with a “distinctive and commanding exterior design,” along with a “reimagined interior” that “maximizes space and gives clients a sense of tranquility with the help of new, connected experiences.”

Inside, the Nautilus features a flowing, horizontal instrument panel integrated into an immersive display – the largest in its class – introducing new levels of connectivity and personalization, Lincoln says. The new Nautilus offers a choice of two powertrains: a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine as well as a hybrid version, which is available on all trim levels.

Standard is the 2.0-liter turbocharged fourcylinder engine with 250 horsepower and 275 foot-pounds of torque, connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with standard all-wheel drive.

Optional is a 2.0-liter turbocharged hybrid drive system, with a total system horsepower of 310. The new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission with a 100kW electric motor.

The new Nautilus is equipped with an adaptive suspension and a suite of sensors that constantly monitor vehicle motion, body movement, steering, acceleration, and braking activities.

There are five standard drive modes – normal, conserve, excite, slippery and deep conditions – easily selected for optimum cruising.

In addition to the available four signature exterior body colors – Red Carpet, Diamond Red, Chroma Caviar and Blue Panther -- the all-new Nautilus introduces three new available interior color themes.

The Jet Appearance Package, which is available on all models, includes two-tone paint, available high gloss-black 22-inch wheels, an exclusive interior environment, and anodized black exterior elements.

Lincoln Navigator

With three rows of seating and lots of cargo capacity, the Navigator is Lincoln’s most-versatile vehicle, and also its most-powerful. Five models are offered: Standard, Reserve, Reserve L, Black Label, and Black Label L.

Navigator’s twin-turbo V-6 engine produces up to 440 horsepower and 510 foot-pounds of torque. It’s connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is available.

And with the debut of the newest Navigator, Lincoln raised the bar again in the full-size luxury SUV class with the introduction of more technologies.

Navigator was the first Lincoln vehicle to offer ActiveGlide, which the company says is “an evolution of Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering and Speed Sign Recognition.”

Also updated, the Navigator’s SYNC system, enabled by cloud connectivity, is now more intuitive than ever, with twice the computing power and the ability to wirelessly connect smartphones for seamless integration of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SYNC AppLink apps, Lincoln says.

Among its standard features are the Lincolnexclusive “Phone as a Key” technology, which first arrived on the new Aviator. Activated through the

Lincoln Way app, the technology allows owners to lock and unlock, open the liftgate and, most importantly, start and drive their Navigator – all without a traditional key fob, the automaker says. Power running boards are standard, as are heated and ventilated front-row seats and a wireless charging pad for compatible mobile phones.

Navigator also includes Lincoln’s Co-Pilot360, a suite of driver-assist technologies that include Auto High-Beam Headlights, Blind Spot Detection

with Cross-Traffic Alert and trailer coverage, LaneKeeping System with Driver Alert, Lane-Keeping Alert, Lane-Keeping Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Dynamic Brake Support, Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection, and a rearview camera with washer.

Lincoln Aviator

The Lincoln Aviator is a rear- or all-wheel-drive midsize, three-row, luxury crossover, which arrived all new for 2020, including regular gasoline-only and plug-in hybrid versions. The new 2025 Aviator, coming this summer, combines elevated design and connected experiences, including the all-new Lincoln Digital Experience and BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology, available on Aviator for the first time.

With the redesign, Lincoln’s popular three-row SUV showcases the brand’s evolved design language, focusing on signature features and connected experiences, the company says.

The 2025 Aviator has a bold new face, with an updated grille and headlights, and available sequentially animated daytime running light strips – “all contributing to the vehicle’s confident and commanding stance,” Lincoln says.

Lincoln Corsair

The newest version of the Lincoln Corsair made its debut for 2023 with features including the available Lincoln ActiveGlide hands-free driving technology for speeds up to 80 mph.

“Corsair is artistically crafted and expertly designed to attract younger Lincoln clients and give them the luxury experience they desire,” Lincoln says.

Its enhanced interior places an emphasis on the brand’s horizontal, signature design. The center stack screen has grown to 13.2 inches, and features

SYNC technology and Lincoln Enhance software updates.

The driver’s 12.3-inch LCD cluster is also standard, with the Lincoln-unique Constellation digital interface.

Corsair is available with either the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine with a 250-horsepower rating, or the 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid Corsair Grand Touring with a 266 combined horsepower rating.

The intelligent all-wheel drive system allows for enhanced all-weather capabilities and bold performance, optimizing efficiency by seamlessly switching between front-and-all-wheel drive, depending on road conditions, Lincoln says.

Drivers can choose among drive modes: Normal, Excite, Slippery and Conserve. Two additional modes enhance the plug-in hybrid electric driving experience, including an EV-only mode.

the model. Kinematic Posture Control technology, which suppresses body lift on tight corners to enhance stability and help all occupants to maintain a natural posture, is also standard on all CX-70 models, Mazda says.

Some other features of the CX-70 include remotefolding rear seats, which allow for easier loading into the rear of the vehicle; a rear cargo area that has been optimized for storage with additional compartments, hooks for bags and other equipment; and a unique sub-trunk design that allows CX-70 owners to stow valuables and other small items out of sight.

Alexa Built-in is standard on all CX-70 models. It allows the drivers to make hands-free commands for changing the cabin temperature or audio choices, as well as controlling their smart home devices.

CX-70 features upscale interior options, such as an available tan interior with two-tone accents, or a new red interior option inspired by the 100th anniversary edition MX-5 sports car.

Mazda CX-30

The CX-30 is a five-passenger small crossover designed for young people who are still single, or who are married and starting a family.

Seven trim levels are available: CX-30 2.5 S, S Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, S Premium, 2.5 Turbo Premium, and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus.

I-Active all-wheel drive is standard across the lineup.

A variety of exterior colors is available, including four premium ones: Polymetal Gray Metallic or Machine Gray Metallic, for $595 extra, depending on trim chosen.

Interior colors and materials also vary depending on the trim and exterior color chosen. The top-ofthe-line Premium model has white leather seating. Lower models offer cloth or leatherette, in Black or Greige – depending on the trim.

The Premium model adds standard Active Driving Display (head-up, on the windshield), Adaptive Front Lighting system, LED signature headlights/ taillights, leather seating, power-sliding glass moon roof, steering wheel paddle shifters, power rear liftgate, and roof rails.

Regular models are powered by a Skyactive-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder, 186-horsepower engine with cylinder-deactivation technology, paired with a Skyactive-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode.

Turbo models have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 227 horsepower and a six-speed automatic.

Mazda CX-90

Added to the Mazda lineup for 2024, the CX-90 is the largest and most well-equipped Mazda vehicle ever offered in the U.S. market.

With a total of 11 variations, including a plug-in hybrid, the new CX-90 starts just under $40,000 and runs as high as $60,000. It’s available in three new powertrain options, CX-90 3.3 Turbo S, CX-90 PHEV (plug-in hybrid), and CX-90 3.3 Turbo.

The CX-90 3.3 Turbo S is equipped with the e-Skyactiv G 3.3L Inline 6 Turbo, which is the most powerful mass-production gasoline engine developed by Mazda.

It’s rated at 340 horsepower and 369 foot-pounds of torque when using the recommended premium fuel, and posts EPA ratings of an estimated 23 mpg city/28 highway/25 mpg combined.

The CX-90 PHEV has an electric motor connected to a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that has a combined 323 horsepower and 369 footpounds of torque when using premium fuel.

This model is designed to operate purely on electric power in a variety of driving scenarios. It comes with a 17.8 kWh high-capacity battery, which Mazda says is helpful for longer drives or when the driver requires maximum acceleration, such as merging onto the freeway.

Also available on the CX-90 is the standard e-Skyactiv G 3.3L Turbo engine producing 280 horsepower and 332 foot-pounds of torque, using regular fuel.

It has EPA ratings of an estimated 24 city/28 highway/25 combined.

Both inline six engines are equipped with M-Hybrid Boost, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

All three powertrain choices come with Mazda’s new eight-speed automatic transmission, specifically designed for the CX-90’s dimensions and layout.

The electric motor is placed between the engine and transmission, creating smooth acceleration from a standstill, and allowing the motor to power the CX-90 directly at low speeds.

All CX-90 models are equipped with standard features that include Mazda’s Intelligent Drive Select, or Mi-Drive, with Sport and Off-Road modes; Kinematic Posture Control, a software feature first debuted on the MX-5 Miata that suppresses body lift on tight corners to enhance the grip and help occupants maintain a natural posture; and i-Activ all-wheel drive.

Standard i-Activsense2 safety features include Smart City Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go,

Driver Attention Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

All CX-90 models also come with a new rearseat alert feature to help avoid accidentally leaving objects or occupants in the rear when exiting the vehicle.
