Gazebo at Los Patios closing
The Gazebo at Los Patios, a destination for lunch, brunch, tea service and generations of special occasions along the Salado Creek Greenway since 1972, is winding down its restaurant service Dec. 30.
“By closing the daily dining operations, we’ll have more time to devote to creative thinking for new uses for our spaces,” owner John McClung said in a statement.
The 16-acre green space at Los Patios, which was started by San Antonio landscape architect John Spice in 1968, will continue as a private events venue for weddings, proms, reunions, corporate meetings and more, in addition to booking shortterm rentals for the property’s Casa Salado Airbnb.
To celebrate the Gazebo’s history, the restaurant is offering a special incentive for customers to bring in and share photos of their families’ special occasions there and at Los Patios over the years. That incentive? One entree or appetizer for the table at 1972 prices. For example, the popular Gazebo Combination of chicken, shrimp and fruit salads would go from $16 to its original menu price of $4.95. The $14 Crepes Gazebo? Try $4.25.
Or just have some chicken a la king and a Daisy Jean Champagne cocktail, for old time’s sake. Whites’ tenure, Jeret Peña of the Boulevardier Group operated the property for a short time.
“Our aspiration is to continue to be good stewards to an iconic neighborhood establishment and really connect with the community,” Lake said.
Adrian Sarabia, who used to work stints at The Esquire Tavern, Paramour and Blue Box Bar, has been hired to be the general manager and is developing a bar program with budget-friendly pricing. There also are plans to have regular Saturday “block parties,” themed to special events.
Outside of a thorough scrubbing and a few upgrades to the patio area, Lake said the changeover is mostly a turnkey operation with all permits in place through the landlord. There aren’t any plans for major facility upgrades.
The food part of the Tucker’s rebranding is still in development, but Lake said to expect a tight menu of “simple, clean bar food with a twist,” as well as a weekend brunch offering.
