Elementary school opening delayed
Construction delays have pushed back the expected opening of Judson Independent School District’s newest elementary school to February, superintendent Jeanette Ball announced.
The first day of school at Wortham Oaks Elementary is tentatively set for Feb. 4, following a Jan. 31 open house, she said at a meeting Thursday.
“Many cosmetic touches still need to be completed, in addition to larger projects such as floors, ceiling tiles, and painting,” the district said in a statement. “Our priority is to deliver a quality finished product where your children will be safe from continued construction.”
Judson ISD opened Escondido Elementary this fall and planned to open Wortham Oaks in January. The schools, which can each hold about 700 students, were built to take pressure off Masters and Rolling Meadows Elementary Schools, which were using portable classrooms, the district said previously.
