A rise then plunge on temp roller coaster
San Antonio can expect its first freeze of the new year this weekend, National Weather Service meteorologist Yvette Benavides said.
“Springlike temperatures” Thursday and Friday will be followed by “a strong arctic cold front” Saturday, the weather service tweeted.
The front is expected to drop overnight temperatures into the low 30s and mid-20s between Saturday and Monday. Warmer weather is expected to return Tuesday.
Leading up to the cold front, San Antonio should get steadily warmer — and possibly wetter — Benavides said.
Lows are forecast to be in the mid-40s to mid-50s Wednesday through Friday, with highs in the mid-60s Wednesday and mid-70s Thursday and Friday.
Fog and drizzle are possible both today and Thursday, Benavides said, and there’s potential for isolated showers and thunderstorms Friday and Saturday.
Snow isn’t currently in the forecast.
“That cold front’s going to be pretty strong, bringing some stronger wind and much colder temperatures behind it,” Benavides said.
Saturday’s high should be in the mid-50s before falling to just below freezing at night and into Sunday.
Sunday is expected to be the coldest day, with a high of just 48 degrees and a low in the mid-20s overnight heading into Monday.
Temperatures then will slowly increase until they return to the typical January high of 60s by Tuesday afternoon, Benavides said.
