SARA JANE "SALLY" BERGQUIST KEELE

-

June 24, 1934 - January 13, 2019

Sara Jane "Sally" Bergquist, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2019. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 24, 1934 to Ken and Helen Bergquist. Sally considered herself a Texan as most of her life was spent in McAllen, Houston, and Canyon Lake, Texas.

Sally was a renaissancewoman: she played music, square- danced, and traveled constantly with her loving husband James. She was also academically and professionally accomplished; after getting her master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner from Texas Woman’s University, she became a Director of Nurses and served as President of the Board of Nursing Examiners for two terms. Her love of people and empathetic nature served her well in these roles.

Sara married James Clay Keele on February 4, 1956 and they’ve been together ever since. For 63 years they were best friends and travel partners. They raised a family, succeeded professionally, and in their later years, traveled in their RV together thousands of miles both domestically and internationally. ’Til death do us part’ was not taken lightly: James was by her side until the absolute latest possible moment. Sally will be missed as an invaluable friend and confident to so many.

Sara is survived by her husband, James, her brother Ken Bergquist and sister in law Diane, her sister Ann Self and brother in law L.D, her daughter, Connie Keele, and her grandsons Bryce Dishongh and Justin Dishongh, and all of those too-many- to-name folks she traveled and laughed with through the years.

Sara is preceded in death by her son James Cabot Keele and daughter in law Marlene. Please help us celebrate her life by joining us at Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church in Sattler, TX at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, January 26, 2019. Please sign the guestbook at www.doeppenschmidtfuneral
