Art district getting a new brewpub

- Compiled from staff reports

A new brewpub is set to open this spring in San Antonio’s Lone Star Art District near the intersection of Probandt and Cevallos streets.

Signage for the Dos Sirenos Brewing Co. has been put up in the long-dormant space at 231 E. Cevallos St., the former home of The Beach bar.

According to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on Dec. 13, the microbrewery, bar and commercial kitchen is undergoing an estimated $250,000 renovation of the 3,700-square-foot facility.

Dos Sirenos is a family operation, with owners Mike and Kari Sireno running the business with their son Jacob. Mike and Jacob will share brewing duties, using a five-barrel system.

“We love the German- and Belgian-style beers, and we’ll have a more traditional approach to our beers,” Mike Sireno said. “That’s not to say that we won’t add some things and experiment a bit, though.”

Look for a lineup of eight flagship beers: Weiss Guys Hefe, Trident Tripel, pilsner, weizenbock, Russian imperial stout, Dos Sirenos Lager, amber ale and a Belgian wit. The plan is to have up to 20 beers on tap, all made in-house, that will also hit on seasonal flavors.

The food menu is still in development, but Sireno said the focus will be on burgers, wings and other dishes that pair well with the beer, in addition to weekend brunch.

A construction crew was actively working on the property Tuesday. There are plans for outdoor seating.

“Ideally, we would have liked to be up and running already, but we’re shooting for a late March opening,” Sireno said. “We looked for several months to see what was available and came back to this location. This is an area of town that needs more businesses like this.” Dos Sirenos Brewing, 231 E. Cevallos St. Online: dossirenos brewingcom. Facebook: dossirenos-brewing
