Honda, USAA team up on safe driving feature
USAA is working with Honda and ConnectedTravel on an application designed to help people improve their driving skills and road safety.
The San Antonio financial-services company is developing a “driver coach” feature that will be integrated with the Japanese automaker’s Honda Dream Drive program. The mobile-based dashboard system lets people make restaurant reservations, order food, pay for gas and parking, and — for passengers — watch movies and “play mixed reality games,” Honda said in a written statement.
USAA’s Auto Innovation team is working on a rewards piece for the program. Drivers will be scored on various safe-driving metrics and can see where they need to make improvements, a spokesperson for USAA said in an email.
The specifics are still being developed, the spokesperson said. Honda’s Dream Drive platform, which was demoed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, will be added to cars this summer.
Honda is also working with other companies such as Chevron, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Grubhub, iHeartRadio and Yelp on its Dream Drive program. ConnectedTravel is a connected vehicle platform and application services firm.
Many of USAA’s customers drive the automaker’s cars. The Honda Civic and Honda Accord are two of the bank’s top 10 newlyinsured cars, USAA said in a news release.
The aim of USAA’s app is to “greatly increase safe driving behaviors,” said Randy Termeer, general manager of USAA Auto Insurance.
