Pink deftly balances music, theatrics.

- — Jim Kiest

Seven albums into her career, with an eighth on the way, Pink could stand on a bare stage and deliver a knockout performance, drawing on songs such as “So What,” “Just Give Me a Reason” and “Get the Party Started.”

Her Beautiful Trauma tour has much more in store, of course, with sets and stunts suitable for a Cirque du Soleil troupe.

“Zipping around the rafters,” Greg Kot wrote in the Chicago Tribune following a tour stop in the Windy City, “(Pink) looked like the bride of Ziggy Stardust as she zoomed up to face the fans in the third balcony.”

Such demanding performances require more than vocal exercises from Pink, of course. “I forgot how FULL ON this show is,” she tweeted in February prior to the start of the tour’s second leg. “Day two rehearsals, and i am sore as hell.”

Even without the aerial acrobatics, Pink occupies a unique place in the pop music world.

She works with cutting-edge producers such as Max Martin and Shellback without giving up control. Songs such as her recent hit “What About Us” are the work of a socially engaged woman and devoted mother who insists on telling her truth.

There’s more to come. Pink just released a new single, “Walk Me Home,” from the forthcoming album “Hurts 2B Human.”
