Boerne Independent School District’s Board of Trustees was selected as the Region 20 nominee for the 2019 Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Outstanding School Board of the Year.

Only 13 school boards were selected as nominees throughout all of Texas, and five of these nominees will be selected as Honor Boards in late July.

These five Honor Boards will attend the September TASA/TASB Convention in Dallas, where they will be interviewed, and a recipient of the Outstanding School Board of the Year will be decided.

The superintendent of the district had to nominate the school board for consideration.

This is Boerne ISD’s first nomination in 15 years.

“Our school board’s reputation is well known in the Boerne community for being one that works together to solve challenges,” said Superintendent Thomas Price.

“The trustees listen to each other if they disagree on issues, discuss different options, and always vote with the best interest of students and staff in mind,” he said.

The award would be for the board of the 2018-2019 school year, whose members were President Carlin Friar, Vice President Joe Tidwell, Alan Rich, Secretary Maritza Gonzalez-Cooper, Dale Adams, Donna Sharp and Rich Sena.

“We have a board that’s inclusive and whose highest priority is meeting every student’s individual needs, so every student is successful,” Price said.
