South San’s Zamora picked for TABC hall
Robert Zamora, who led South San to the Class 3A boys basketball state championship as a player in 1961, has been selected for induction into the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. Zamora is one of four former players and four coaches who’ll be inducted in May during the TABC clinic in San Antonio.
Zamora tied a then state-tournament record by making 17 free throws in a game. He also guided the Bobcats to state tournament appearances in 1959 and 1960.
Our Lady of the Lake women’s basketball coach Stacy Stephens is the other local being inducted. As a player at Winnsboro, she led the Red Raiders to state championships in 1999 and 2000 before playing at Texas.
