A Honduran immigrant in the process of deportation was arrested earlier this week by San Antonio police in connection with the sexual assault of two girls in 2017.

Oscar Orlando Paz was arrested Tuesday and is facing two charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Investigators linked Paz to the case after DNA evidence found on one of the girls matched his, according to an arrest affidavit.

On Jan. 15, 2017, an unknown male, later identified as Paz in court records, reportedly pulled down the pants and undergarments of both girls and assaulted them, the affidavit stated.

The mother of the girls was at the store when the incident occurred. She told police she left the children with her sister and brother, but later determined her family had left the two girls unsupervised, the affidavit said.

In court records, Paz allegedly entered the girl’s home and told them to follow him outside, where the girls were sexually assaulted. Paz then fled on a bicycle after the girls ran into their home and locked the door, according to the affidavit.

Following the assault, the two girls were taken to San Antonio Children’s Hospital, where tests discovered DNA evidence that on Sept. 5, 2019, was connected to Paz, court records show.

Paz was arrested and convicted in December 2018 of burglary of habitation in San Antonio, but investigators said they discovered he was being detained at an ICE facility in Houston because of illegal entry into the United States. He was set to be deported back to Honduras, the affidavit reports.

As a result of the evidence and statements obtained during the criminal investigation, the deportation was nullified and Paz was extradited to San Antonio.
