Braves wrap up NL East crown
ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves clinched their second straight NL East title as Ronald Acuna Jr. hit his 41st homer in a 6-0 win over San Francisco on Friday night that eliminated the Giants from postseason contention in Bruce Bochy’s last year as San Francisco manager.
CARDINALS 2, CUBS 1: Yadier Molina had three of St. Louis’ four hits, including a two-run single, and the Cardinals held off Chicago at Wrigley Field. The Cardinals kept their NL Central lead to 3 games over Milwaukee and stretched it to five games over the Cubs.
BLUE JAYS 4, YANKEES 3: Star second baseman Gleyber Torres prompted an audible gasp from the Yankee Stadium crowd when his right leg buckled while fielding a grounder and made an early exit as New York lost to Toronto. Manager Aaron Boone said he expects Torres to be OK but pulled him as a precaution.
NATIONALS 6, MARLINS 4: Trea Turner hit two solo homers, and Washington won at Miami.
METS 8, REDS 1: Pete Alonso hit his major leagueleading 50th homer, and New York won at Cincinnati.
INDIANS 5, PHILLIES 2: Carlos Carrasco got his first save in five years, and Cleveland beat visiting Philadelphia to maintain position for the second AL wild card.
ORIOLES 5, MARINERS 3: Felix Hernandez labored through five innings in what was likely his penultimate start with Seattle in a loss at Baltimore.
WHITE SOX 10, TIGERS 1: Eloy Jimenez hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, and Chicago won at Detroit.
BREWERS 10, PIRATES 1: Chase Anderson pitched six scoreless innings, and host Milwaukee routed Pittsburgh to strengthen its grip on an NL wild card.
RAYS 5, RED SOX 4: World Series champion Boston was mathematically eliminated earlier when Cleveland beat Philadelphia, then lost to host Tampa Bay when Willy Adames had a walkoff RBI single in the 11th.
TWINS 4, ROYALS 3: Randy Dobnak pitched 51⁄3 innings for his first major league win, and host Minnesota beat Kansas City.
ATHLETICS 8, RANGERS 0: Mike Fiers struck out five over eight dominant innings, and Oakland beat Texas to maintain a two-game lead for the top AL wild card.
DIAMONDBACKS 9, PADRES 0: Merrill Kelly threw seven shutout innings, and Arizona won at San Diego.
