Johnson 38, Reagan 31: Ty Reasoner and Justin Rodriguez combine for 382 rushing yards.

Quick take: Johnson ran away from Reagan in the Jaguars 38-31 win over the Rattlers Friday night at Heroes Stadium in front of a crowd of 8,401.

The Jaguars’ Ty Reasoner and Justin Rodriguez combined to rush for 382 yards and five touchdowns to pace the offense that totaled 446 total yards to the Rattlers’ 455.

The game was the district opener for both schools.

Highlights: Reasoner, the Jaguars junior quarterbac­k, started the scoring for Johnson in the first quarter, bursting through the middle of the line and had nothing but green as he outraced the Reagan defense for an 82-yard score in the first quarter. The Jaguars had been pinned deep in their own territory by a 61-yard Reagan punt.

A Reasoner three-yard touchdown run capped off a 60-yard, six-play drive in the second quarter touchdown. The Jaguars took advantage of a short Reagan punt in the third quarter starting at the Rattler’s 38 yard line. Two plays later, Reasoner again raced 32 yards for a touchdown. Rodriguez got into the scoring action next, the senior’s first score coming on a 55-yard run to finish a 68-yard drive to put the Jaguars ahead 31-17. Reagan answered with a quick score of their own with Stayton Ankrom taking a Travis Sthele pass 42 yards. The Jaguars put the game out of reach on their ensuring possession with Rodriguez rushing for all 80 yards of another four-play drive. A six-yard bulldozing run gave Johnson a 38-24 lead. Reagan’s final score of the night came on a second touchdown connection between Sthele and Ankrom. This time going for 28 yards with 6:19 remaining.

What it means: Johnson gets to .500 on the season and starts district play with a win. Reagan fails to get another come-from-behind win and falls to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in district.

Game balls: The Johnson backfield duo of Reasoner and Rodriguez carried the load for the Jaguars. Reasoner finished the night with seven carries for 134 yards and three scores. Rodriguez was the workhorse with 248 yards on 34 carries and two scores.

The Rattlers were led by Sthele. The University of Texas baseball commit finished with 277 yards passing and two touchdowns. Ankrom was his favorite target, catching seven passes for 190 yards.

Up next: Reagan plays Churchill 7:30 p.m. Friday at Heroes Stadium. Johnson plays Lee at 7 p.m., Saturday at Comalander Stadium.
