No. 2 Baylor tops Iowa State for 13th consecutiv­e win

WACO — Davion Mitchell had 17 points, scoring just before and after halftime as No. 2 Baylor started stretching its lead, and the Bears beat Iowa State 68-55 on Wednesday night for their 13th win in a row.

Baylor (14-1) is the only Big 12 team to make it through the first four conference games without a loss.

Rasir Bolton and Prentiss Nixon both had nine points for Iowa State (8-8, 1-3 Big 12).

Jared Butler had 19 points and five assists to lead the Bears, whose only loss came against Washington in Alaska the first week of the season.

Freddie Gillespie had 14 points and 11 rebounds, his sixth double-double this season for Baylor. Mark Vital added 11 points.

ALABAMA 83, AUBURN 64

Kira Lewis Jr. scored 25 points, and the Crimson Tide handed the No. 4 Tigers their first loss of the season with a rout in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Alabama (9-7, 2-2 Southeaste­rn Conference) led wire-to-wire over its in-state rival. Auburn (15-1, 3-1) had a miserable shooting night and left No. 7 San Diego State (18-0) as the nation's last unbeaten team.

SETON HALL 78, BUTLER 70

Myles Powell scored 19 of his 29 points in the second half, and Romaro Gill matched his career high with 17 points to lead the No. 18 Pirates back from a 10point halftime deficit for a victory over the fifth-ranked Bulldogs in Indianapol­is.

Seton Hall (13-4, 5-0 Big East) closed the game on a 13-4 run to win their seventh in a row.

Kamar Baldwin had 19 points to lead Butler (15-2, 3-1).

SOUTH CAROLINA 81 KENTUCKY 78

Freshman Jermaine Couisnard hit a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded, and the Gamecocks rallied from 14 points down in the second half to stun the No. 10 Wildcats in Columbia, S.C.

Couisnard had a career-high 26 points, including his gamewinner that banked in for South Carolina (9-7, 1-2 Southeaste­rn Conference). When it went through the net, Couisnard and his teammates ran around the court in celebratio­n as the fans erupted in cheers.

Moments earlier, Immanuel

Quickley banked home a shot with 4.1 seconds to go that tied things at 78. Quickly led Kentucky (12-4, 3-1) with 20 points.

TEMPLE 65, WICHITA ST. 53

Quinton Rose scored 19 points, and the host Owls used a strong defensive performanc­e to upset the No. 16 Shockers.

Jake Forrester and Monty Scott each chipped in 11 points for Temple (10-6, 2-3 American Athletic Conference).

James Echenique scored 20 points for Wichita State (15-2, 3-1).

FLORIDA ST. 54, VIRGINIA 50

Devin Vassell scored 18 points, including a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws in the final seconds, and the No. 9 Seminoles (15-2, 5-1 ACC) defeat the visiting Cavaliers (11-5, 3-3) for their eighth straight win.

GEORGETOWN 83, CREIGHTON 80

Omer Yurtseven had 20 points and 13 rebounds, Mac Mcclung scored 19 points, and the host Hoyas (12-6, 2-3 Big East) beat the No. 25 Bluejays (13-5, 2-3).

LEONARD JERSEY TO BE RETIRED

Kawhi Leonard will become the first San Diego State player to have his jersey retired when the No. 7 Aztecs honor him Feb. 1 during a game against Utah State.

Leonard helped lead the Aztecs to national prominence during his two seasons, including their first Sweet 16 appearance and a program-best 34-3 finish in the 2010-11 season, before spending his first seven NBA seasons with the Spurs.

Leonard is expected to present as his jersey is hoisted into the rafters at Viejas Arena. His

Los Angeles Clippers play a home game that afternoon. Steve Fisher, who turned around the program in his 18 seasons as coach, also will participat­e.

Leonard is one of just three players in the program's 99-year history to average a doubledoub­le for his career, with 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds.

Leonard is in his second season with the Clippers. He was named NBA Finals MVP after leading the Toronto Raptors to their first title last season. He was named Finals MVP after helping the Spurs win the championsh­ip in 2014.

Women BAYLOR 90, KANSAS 47

Lauren Cox and Nalyssa Smith each scored 13 points, and the No. 2 Lady Bears used a 50-point first half to rout the Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan.

Baylor (13-1, 3-0 Big 12) moved into first place in the conference after a loss by West Virginia earlier in the evening to Oklahoma.

OKLAHOMA 73, WEST VIRGINIA 49

Taylor Roberston made eight 3-pointers and scored a careerhigh 31 points to help the visiting Sooners (10-6, 3-1 Big 12) upset the 17th-ranked Mountainee­rs.

TEXAS 92, TEXAS TECH 66

Charli Collier had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Joyner Holmes added 17 points, and the Longhorns routed the Lady Raiders in Austin to improve to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12.

Chrislyn Carr and Brittany Brewer each scored 16 for Texas Tech (12-3, 1-3).
