UTSA FALLS IN OT

» UTEP outlasts Roadrunner­s in El Paso.

After UTSA built a 24-point lead early in the second half, UTEP stormed back to earn an 80-77 win in overtime on Wednesday at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso.

A 12-2 run to open the second half gave the Roadrunner­s (8-10, 2-3 Conference USA) their largest lead at 54-30 with 14:43 remaining. The Miners (11-7, 2-3) mounted a 17-0 run over just more than three minutes to pull within 5650 midway through the second half. UTEP'S 8-0 spurt later in the half tied the game at 60 with less than five minutes to play.

The Roadrunner­s took a twopoint lead in the final minute on a pair of free throws by Keaton Wallace, but the Miners' Bryson Williams hit a midrange jumper to force overtime. Williams finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds to pace UTEP.

The teams exchanged the lead six times in overtime before a jumper from Williams, a dunk from Eric Vila and a pair of free throws from Souley Boum staked UTEP to a five-point advantage in the final minute. Jhivvan Jackson hit a 3 on the ensuing possession to cut the margin to two points, but Jackson and Wallace both came up short on tightly contested 3s in the waning seconds.

Jackson led UTSA with 29 points on 10-of-26 shooting. He also added 13 rebounds. Wallace netted 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, and Luka Barisic scored 12.

UTSA and UTEP will play again at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Convocatio­n Center.

MCNEESE 72 INCARNATE WORD 56

A.J. Lawson scored 19 points and Dru Kuxhausen added 15 as Mcneese broke open a close game in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to defeat Incarnate Word.

Vincent Miszkiewic­z added 14 for UIW (4-12, 1-4 Southland).

The Cardinals chipped away at 44-33 second-half deficit and pulled within 48-46 with 11:24 to go on a steal and layup by Miszkiewic­z. Mcneese (8-9, 3-3) responded with a 20-4 run that gave it a 68-50 lead with 3:00 to go on a layup by Lawson.

Women INCARNATE WORD 73 MCNEESE 56

Incarnate Word scored a season-high in points and showed its fourth-best Southland Conference defense was strong enough to take down the fourth-ranked Mcneese offense at the Mcdermott Center in Lake Charles. Sophomore guard Macy Ray scored 16 points and led Incarnate Word (7-7, 3-2 Southland) with her sharpshoot­ing from 3-point range with a season-high four makes.

Victoria Jackson had three steals on three consecutiv­e possession­s and scored off those turnovers to help extend the lead and seal the Cardinals' win.

Three other Cardinals scored in double-digits with Lunden Henry (13), Jackson (12) and Imani Robinson (10).
