Two months after temporarily closing its doors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the San Antonio Zoo has set an official reopening date, starting with a three-day passholder event.

The zoo will only allow passholders to enter May 29-31 before opening to general public June 1.

“Our zoo crew has been working diligently on reopening plans almost since the day we closed,” said Tim Morrow, president and CEO of the zoo. “We will be implementing safety guidelines set forth by our governor and city officials that will provide our guests with a safe visit back to the zoo. We look forward to guests enjoying the zoo once again.”

Because of occupancy restrictions imposed by Gov. Greg Abbott, visitors will need to make an online reservation for a dedicated time slot before arriving.

Ticket reservations will open May 25 on the zoo’s website.

In addition to the ticket reservations, indoor exhibits such as Amphibia, the Hixon Bird House and the Friedrich Aquarium will be closed. The zoo has also shut down its carousel, Zoo Eagle Train and Kiddie Park.

The zoo will also have hand sanitizer stations and social distancing reminders throughout the park. Officials strongly recommend guests who are 10 or older wear a face mask.

Until foot traffic resumes, you can still see the sights at the zoo in the comfort of your car through Thursday. Tickets are $65 per vehicle and reservations made be online at sazoo.org.
