Suspect in shooting of wife is found dead
One woman was shot and a man was later found dead at a far West Side residence after an hours-long standoff sparked by a domestic dispute Thursday, officials said.
The Bexar County Sheriff ’s Office identified the man as 38year-old Daniel Sanchez.
Deputies responded to the incident at around 6:30 p.m. in the 12300 block of Lexi Petal. According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, Sanchez shot his wife in the torso four times during an argument.
The woman was able to escape from the residence and later taken to the hospital in critical condition. Salazar said she is expected to survive.
The sheriff praised the couple’s 17-year-old daughter, who was able to get two children under the age of 5 out of the home safely.
Sanchez then barricaded himself in the house, refusing to communicate with deputies or surrender.
At around 10:30 p.m., deputies were still trying to communicate with Sanchez and were unsure if he was alive or even inside the home. Salazar said Sanchez has a history of family violence.
During a news conference Thursday night, Salazar urged Sanchez to turn himself in peacefully, begging him to think about his children.
Shortly before midnight, officials sent a robot into the residence. It cleared most of the first floor of the home but was unable to open one of the bedroom doors. SWAT officers then went into the residence and found Sanchez’s body in the bedroom.
Salazar said it appears Sanchez died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound but is waiting for the medical examiner to make a final determination.
