Records: Madison (4-2 overall, 3-1 District 28-6A), Johnson (6-0, 5-0)

Notable: Second-ranked Johnson is off to its best start in program history. The Jaguars have equaled their win total from last season when they were 6-5. KEY STORYLINE

Brackenridge vs. Memorial, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Edgewood

Veterans Stadium: After a delayed start to their seasons, Brackenridge and Memorial have wasted no time in establishing themselves as the pacesetters in their respective zones in District 13-5A-I.

Brackenridge is 2-0 and leads Zone A, while Memorial is 2-0 atop Zone B. Although this game won’t factor in playoff positioning, it should give each an indication of how good it is.

Memorial is led by running back C.J. Cardenas (35-308, six TDS), while the Eagles rely on the rushing tandem of running back Marvin Levingston (38-193,

two TDS) and quarterback Carlos Camargo (22-103, 3 TDS). Brackenridge leads the all-time series 7-1.

KEY MATCHUPS

Boerne vs. Burnet, 7 p.m. Thursday, Round Rock’s Reeves Athletic Complex: Boerne faces a familiar opponent for its Class 4A Division I first-round playoff. The Greyhounds (7-2) defeated Burnet 30-7 on Sept. 11 in a non-district game. Boerne outgained the Bulldogs 428-198 in total yardage.

Burnet (5-5) stumbles into the playoffs after finishing the regular season with back-toback losses. Prior to this season, the teams had not met since 1979 and Burnet leads the series 2-1.

Warren vs. Harlan, 7 p.m. Thursday, Gustafson Stadium:

Harlan (2-3, 2-2 District 29-6A) needs a victory to stay in contention for a playoff spot with four weeks left in the regular season. The district standings are muddled after Warren and Brennan, tied for the top spot at 4-1.

Stevens is 3-2, followed by Harlan, Taft, O’connor and Marshall all at 2-2.

Warren suffered a 35-14 defeat against Taft last week. However, it was considered a nondistrict game because it was the second time they played this season. Warren’s 21-14 win against Taft on Oct. 2 factors into the district standings. Southside at Southwest Legacy, 2 p.m. Saturday: Southside is 4-0 and 1-0 in District 14-5A-I after two of its previous three games have been called off for COVID-19 reasons. The Cardinals overwhelmed Southwest 42-14 the last time they were on the field two weeks ago.

Legacy (4-2, 2-0) had an open date last week and is coming off victories over Rio Grande City (41-20) and Southwest (17-14).

UNDER THE RADAR GAME

Navarro vs. Cuero, 7 p.m. Thursday, Karnes City: Teams meet for the second time this season in a Class 4A Division II first-round playoff. Cuero (5-5) won the first clash 42-21 on Sept. 18 to snap an 0-3 slide to start the season. The loss was Navarro’s second in three weeks.

Since then, Navarro has rolled off six straight victories, including a 24-22 win against Wimberley, a state finalist last year.
