Dual killings linked to drugs
A 20-year-old man and a teenager were shot and killed Thursday night on the Northeast Side, officials said.
Bexar County sheriff 's deputies were called to the 7300 block of Rubens Drive around 9:20 p.m. for a shooting.
A group of people were conducting a marijuana transaction in a vehicle when at least two people approached and fired into the vehicle, authorities said.
Robert Smith, 20, and a 14-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, were both struck several times and died at the scene.
“A14-year-old lost his life over something as senseless as a couple grams of marijuana,” said Sheriff Javier Salazar.
Other people in the vehicle were not injured, Salazar said, noting there could have been four or five victims. Deputies have not identified any suspects.
The majority of Bexar County drug-related homicides in recent years involved small marijuana deals, the sheriff said.
BCSO has set up a mobile substation in a nearby Walzem Road parking lot after the double shooting and two other incidents in the area: Giovanna Barrera, 24, was shot and killed in her Tarrasa driveway after rollerskating on Dec. 9, and on Tuesday night, a 56-year-old man was found dead on Oldham Drive.
In the Oldham Drive death, witnesses said the manhad been run over by two cars. Neither driver stopped. Deputies are investigating whether he was killed and dumped in the road before the first collision.
Officials are asking anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 210-335-6070.
“Maybe you thought you may have hit an animal. But we're here to tell you if you were on Oldham the other night and thought you hit something, it was probably a human,” Salazar said.
