DOROTHY R. SIMS

March 1, 2021

-

Dorothy Rose Beck Sims was called to her eternal home on March 1, 2021 at the age of 90. Dorothy was born in Marion, Texas on February 7, 1931, and raised in New Braunfels. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Beck and Olga Hoffmann Beck, and by her sister, Celestine Reininger. She is survived by her husband, Jack Sims, and by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Dorothy graduated as valedictorian of her class from St Mary’s in Austin. Following high school graduation, Dorothy went to work for United Gas, a job that took her from New Braunfels to San Antonio, to Louisiana.

Dorothy married Jack Sims in 1965. Their 56 years together were happy ones – filled with fun times, mutual interests, community involvement, and much joy. Countless hours and energy went into varied organizations and projects, particularly antique collecting, gardening, and community events. Dorothy held membership in the San Antonio Art League and Museum, where she was on the Board of Directors and held the offices of treasurer and parliamentarian. She served on the Board of Bexar County Hospital District, and was president of the Bexar County Republican Women. Along with membership in St. Monica’s Guild, she was an associate member of the San Antonio Garden Center, and held the offices of treasurer and membership vice-president with the Sultanas de Bejar.

Dorothy and Jack enjoyed many things together. Travel was a great pastime, their adventures covering the 50 States. Dorothy had a great love for saltwater fishing, loved to tell family stories, and enjoyed multiple crafts and hobbies. She was a devout Catholic, born into the Church, and carrying her faith for all of her years. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by all who knew her.

Special gratitude to Bob and Kay Sims for their wonderful love and support, and a special thanks to Dorothy’s loving caregiver/housekeeper Maria G. Garza.
