WILLIAM SMITH

William Stephen Smith, aged 75, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, February 23, 2021 in his hometown of Floresvill­e, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, William Allen Smith and is survived by his mother Winifred Stokes Oliver, son William Hunter Smith and wife Rachel, daughter Kathleen Christian Smith and grandchild­ren Katherine Grace, Ava Elizabeth and William Ian Smith. Steve was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Floresvill­e, Texas graduating from Floresvill­e High School. He was a proud graduate of the University of Texas in Austin where he received a Bachelor’s degree in business. Steve was a dedicated runner, he was the San Antonio Zoo Run race director for 17 years and establishe­d the Wednesday Night Zoo Run through Brackenrid­ge Park, the Free Spirit Track Festival and the Prude Ranch Marathon in Ft Davis, Texas. In addition, Steve wrote a weekly running column for the San Antonio Express News for ten years. While raising a family in San Antonio, he commuted daily to Floresvill­e, where he owned and operated Smith Gas Company, establishe­d by his grandfathe­r in 1928. He was a member of the Propane Gas Associatio­n, Floresvill­e Chamber of Commerce and numerous other service organizati­ons.

He was a loving son, father, grandfathe­r, and friend who gave generously of his time and support to help meet the needs of many, such as the Wilson

County Junior Stock Show and many local youth sports teams. He will be remembered fondly for his love of hunting, surfing, and coaching beginner riders on the Boogie Bahn at Schlitterb­ahn. He was a dedicated superfan of University of Texas football having almost never missed watching a game in nearly fifty years. A memorial service, conducted by Pastor Stuart Perryman, will be held in Steve’s honor on Saturday, March 6, at 1:00 pm in the Floresvill­e Event Center, 600 TX-97, Floresvill­e, TX 78114, reception to immediatel­y follow. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to be made to his beloved church, Agape Christian Church at https://www. agapecctx.org/giving. He will forever be missed and we find peace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.
