Oscar-winning actor and icon of Hollywood cool Paul Newman would have turned 97 today. He was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Shaker Heights, Ohio; he died Sept. 26, 2008, at 83 in Westport, Conn. His featured titles today are “The Young Philadelphians” (1959); “The Prize” (1963); “Somebody Up There Likes Me” (1956), Newman’s second film and the one that started garnering him notice; “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof ” (1958), which earned him his first best actor Oscar nomination; “Harper” (1966); and “Cool Hand Luke” (1968), which netted him another best actor Oscar nod.
