Couple marries on flight to Vegas

An engaged couple traveling on Southwest Airlines turned their plane into a wedding chapel.

On Sunday, the lovebirds, named Pam and Jeremy, were en route to get married in Las Vegas when they decided to have an impromptu ceremony on the plane instead, Southwest posted on Facebook.

In the airline’s viral post, Southwest — whose logo includes a red, blue and gold heart — shared the couple’s unique wedding story, saying it was a flight that no one onboard will forget.

Last week, the couple booked a Vegas wedding chapel for Sunday night and airline tickets on one of Southwest’s competitors from Oklahoma City to Sin City with a layover at Dallas-fort Worth International Airport. But when they arrived in Dallas on Sunday, they learned that their connecting flight to Las Vegas was canceled.

As Pam and Jeremy were trying to figure out how to get to their wedding, a fellow passenger on their canceled flight named Chris, who is an ordained minister, overheard them and offered to marry the couple himself. The three quickly bought the last three seats on a Southwest flight to Vegas and hurried across town to the aptly named Dallas Love Field, where Southwest operates in the DFW area.

Pam in her wedding dress and Jeremy wearing an all-black suit quickly caught the attention of their flight’s captain, who joked that the pair should get married on the plane. So they did.

With toilet paper streamers decorating the front of the plane and a flight attendant standing in as the maid of honor, Chris married the couple 10,000 feet in the air.

Meanwhile, a professional photographer who was on the flight documented Pam and Jeremy’s ceremony as the rest of their fellow passengers witnessed their union. Another passenger passed around an old notebook for people to sign as a makeshift guestbook — with everyone including their seat numbers alongside their well wishes.

After the story was posted online, social media commenters were blown away by the kindness of the flight crew and passengers in helping the couple make it a special day.

“This uplifted my spirits and reminded of all the good in the world,” one woman wrote.

Another said it was “so wonderful to read how everyone jumped in to make this a very happy ending.”
