Former UTSA running back Sincere Mccormick signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent Wednesday, finding an opportunity after finishing last weekend’s draft without an NFL home.

A Judson product who set 20 school records with the Roadrunners, Mccormick earned an invitation to Seattle’s rookie minicamp Saturday but remained unsigned until Wednesday.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am right now,” Mccormick posted to Twitter. “God always has a plan, and you have to let him write it out. I’m thankful for this opportunity and watch me run with it. I want to thank everyone from my family, friends, and coach for believe in me.”

Mccormick’s record-breaking marks at UTSA include career rushing yards (3,929), rushing touchdowns (34), 100-yard rushing games (18) and all-purpose yards (4,438).

Despite the immense production, his 5-foot-9 frame and 4.60second time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine limited his standing as an NFL prospect, even as he improved his 40 mark to 4.55 seconds at UTSA’S pro day.

After completing his third season with the program last fall, Mccormick announced in December he would be skipping his final two years of eligibility to enter the NFL draft, forgoing his senior season as well as the extra year of eligibility allowed by the NCAA in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the draft played out Thursday through Saturday, Mccormick was not one of the 262 players selected.

“Keep doubting him,” UTSA coach Jeff Traylor posted to Twitter on Wednesday. “(Mccormick) shows up everyday with a smile. Never misses a practice. Doesn’t put the ball on the ground.”

Mccormick capped his college career with a second straight

Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year award, running for school-record totals of 1,479 yards and 15 touchdowns on 298 carries as a junior. In UTSA’S 4941 win against Western Kentucky in the Conference USA championship game, Mccormick was named MVP, rushing for 204 yards and three touchdowns.

Mccormick was also a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose award for the second straight year and became the school’s first Associated Press All-american when he was selected to the third team.

He signed with UTSA as part of the class of 2019 and earned Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors after running for 983 yards with eight touchdowns.

He ran for 1,467 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2020.

The selections of offensive tackle Spencer Burford, a fourthround pick by the 49ers, and Seahawks fifth-round pick Tariq Woolen marked the first time two Roadrunners were chosen in the same draft, and three other UTSA products signed as undrafted free agents in the hours following the final selections.

Linebacker Charles Wiley landed with with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent, linebacker Clarence Hicks latched on with Cincinnati, and tight end Leroy Watson went to Atlanta.
