UTSA checks in at No. 25 in latest AFCA coaches poll

UTSA moved into the USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches poll for the first time this season at No. 25 and finished just two voter points shy of a return to the rankings in the Associated Press poll as the new top 25s were announced Sunday.

The Roadrunner­s entered the rankings for only the second season in the program's history. Last year, UTSA reached as high as No. 15 in the AP while being listed in both polls for six straight weeks.

The Roadrunner­s finished four spots shy of ranking in the coaches poll last week but leaped into the top 25 as No. 18 Central Florida, No. 24 Oklahoma State and No. 25 NC State fell out.

In the AP poll, UTSA earned 85 voter points, finishing just two shy of UCF, which dipped from No. 17 to No. 25 following a loss to Navy.

UTSA plays its regular season finale against UTEP at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Alamodome.

Seth Keller kicked a 29-yard field goal with two seconds to play to lift the Bobcats to a win at home on Saturday.

TARLETON 49 HOUSTON CHRISTIAN 7

Beau Allen threw for three touchdown passes and the Texans routed the Huskies at Stephenvil­le.

Tarleton (6-5) snapped a three-game losing streak while Houston Christian (2-9) ends its season losing its last seven.

SOUTHERN UTAH 17 SAM HOUSTON 7

Justin Miller threw for 154 yards, Isaiah Wooden rushed for 99 yards and the Thunderbir­ds won at Huntsville.

STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 24 ABILENE CHRISTIAN 21

Trae Self scrambled 12 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 2:43 left to give the Lumberjack­s a win at Abilene and the Western Athletic Conference championsh­ip.

Self finished 26 of 37 for 397 yards and two touchdowns for SFA (6-5, 3-2).

Xavier Gipson had 11 catches for 213 yards.

SOUTH CAROLINA 63 NO. 5 TENNESSEE 38

Spencer Rattler threw for 438 yards and six touchdowns as the host Gamecocks dealt a serious blow to the Volunteers' playoff hopes.

Tennessee (9-2, 6-2 Southeaste­rn) may have also lost Heisman Trophy candidate Hendon Hooker, who left the game in the fourth quarter with a leg injury.

Caleb Williams passed for a career-high 470 yards, Austin Jones rushed for a season-high 120 yards and the Trojans clinched a spot in the Pac-12 Championsh­ip game.

Dillon Gabriel passed for two touchdowns and ran for another and Oklahoma became bowl eligible with a win at home.
