TCM remembers angela lansbury
TCM, beginning at 5:15 a.m. Angela Lansbury, who died Oct. 11 at 96, will be celebrated with a 24-hour marathon of her films. The lineup begins with “National Velvet” (1944), featuring Lansbury alongside Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney, followed by “The Three Musketeers” (1948); the 1948 drama “Tenth Avenue Angel”; “If Winter Comes” (1947), co-starring Walter Pidgeon and Deborah Kerr; “All Fall Down” (1962), headlined by Eva Marie Saint and Warren Beatty; “Dear Heart” (1964), a comedy/drama starring Glenn Ford and Geraldine Page; the 1946 Judy Garland-led musical “The Harvey Girls”; “The Manchurian Candidate” (1962), the thriller with Lansbury delivering a chilling best supporting actress Oscar-nominated performance; “Gaslight” (1944), Lansbury’s first film, which earned her a best supporting actress nod; “The Picture of Dorian Gray” (1945), which also netted Lansbury a supporting actress nomination; the 1951 film noir “Kind Lady”; and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” (1982), a filmed performance of the musical that aired on PBS and earned Lansbury an Emmy nomination.
Gilmore the Merrier Uptv, beginning at 9 a.m.
Uptv brings back its nearly weeklong marathon of the 2000-07 drama “Gilmore Girls,” which runs until the early morning hours of Nov. 28. This year’s event features all 153 episodes, plus the four revival episodes in “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” and is hosted by Michael Winters as town know-it-all Taylor Doose. There will be watch-and-win trivia questions, recaps of all seven seasons and pop-up trivia.

The documentary “Midwives” chronicles two women who run a makeshift medical clinic in a region torn apart by ethnic divisions. Hla, the owner, is a Buddhist in western Myanmar, where the Rohingya, a Muslim minority, are persecuted. Nyo Nyo, a Muslim, is an apprentice. Encouraged and challenged by Hla, Nyo Nyo is determined to become a steady health care provider for her people. The film won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award: Excellence In Verité Filmmaking at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
