Crashed car shows signs of gunfight

-

A Northwest Side car crash left a driver in critical condition and police are trying to figure out why the hood of the vehicle was riddled with bullets.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 3:45 a.m. Sunday in the 6000 block of Interstate Highway 10 West. The red 2008 Ford Mustang was headed south when the driver lost control and it slammed into the concrete center median.

The impact spun the Mustang back into the main lanes, where it faced oncoming traffic when it came to a stop, police said.

Four witnesses were in the process of removing the man from the driver’s seat of the Mustang when officers arrived. He was taken to a local hospital and did not appear to have any gunshot wounds, but police found several bullet holes in the hood and spent bullet casings inside the car.
