Elementary principal is latest to resign in Uvalde
Mandy Pruitt, the principal at Dalton Elementary School in Uvalde, resigned for personal reasons Monday evening, the school district said.
Margaret Tarski, a blended learning specialist, will lead the campus during a transition period, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District’s interim superintendent, Gary Patterson, wrote in an email.
“We have a great team of administrators at Dalton, and I am confident that they will continue to provide the excellent level of service to which our students, staff, and parents are accustomed,” Patterson wrote.
A number of administrative officials have resigned since the start of the school year, both before and after Patterson was named to replace Superintendent Hal Harrell.
Harrell retired after months of struggling with the aftermath of the May 24 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School that killed 19 students and two teachers, though his resignation won’t take effect until August.
Pruitt did not respond to a request for comment.
Dalton Elementary serves grades pre-k to second grade, with the second graders, who would have moved to Robb Elementary, staying there an extra year. A site next door to it will be the location for a new elementary to replace Robb, which the district plans to demolish.
