Teniente-matson pushed A&M-S.A. forward

-

Cynthia Teniente-matson, the second president of Texas A&M University-san Antonio, was the right leader at the right time for the institution.

She will be moving on to serve as president of San José State University, and we wish her the best in this new chapter.

Teniente-matson took the reins of A&M-SAN Antonio in 2015, overseeing the young institution’s dramatic expansion. Enrollment grew from 4,520 students to about 7,300. Academic offerings have broadened. The university now offers 37 undergraduate and 19 graduate degrees.

Teniente-matson never lost sight of the university’s mission. Set on the far South Side, Texas A&M-SAN Antonio draws students from across South Texas. Many students are the first in their families to attend college. Others are veterans or older students pursuing second careers. Throughout her tenure, Teniente-matson put a heavy emphasis on ensuring the campus was welcoming to new students, providing the necessary support. We’re eager to see who emerges as the next leader for Texas A&M University-san Antonio, which continues to build its campus culture and traditions. A Hispanic-serving Institution, the university has a stunning campus and is a vital part of San Antonio’s education mosaic.

It’s a testament to Teniente-matson’s leadership that she leaves the university at a time of so much positive momentum.
