Area lakes, ponds being filled with rainbow trout

-

Rainbow trout are coming to ponds and lakes around San Antonio in the coming weeks and months.

As part of the Neighborhood Fishin' program organized by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, rainbow trout are stocked in various freshwater bodies in the state from November through March. More than 337,000 fish will be stocked throughout the state, including 42,600 rainbow trout in South Central Texas.

Five San Antonio-area locations will receive hundreds of fish this month: Miller's Pond and Southside Lions Park in San Antonio, Canyon Tailrace along the Guadalupe River and Fischer Park Pond 1 in New Braunfels and Live Oak.

Trout anglers will need a valid fishing license that includes a freshwater endorsement unless they're younger than 17. The statewide bag limit is five trout per day, with no minimum length limit.
