Bonsai vs. banzai

Re: “Ukraine pressures stocks of its allies’ weapons,” Front Page, Sunday:

The reference in the Front Page story of “bonsai armies” being named after the “tiny Japanese trees” has me thinking the credited New York Times writers should have used “banzai armies” which would have made more sense when describing fanatical and seemingly suicidal attacks in Ukraine. See Japanese banzai attacks on Saipan against the U.S. Army in 1944.
