S.A. student wins $100K for tuition with football toss
A college student from San Antonio won $100,000 in tuition for throwing 14 footballs into a giant inflatable soda can from 15 feet away.
Raphael Idrogo, 20, who attends Texas A&M University, won the Dr Pepper Conference Championship toss — part of the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway — during the Pac-12 Conference Championship on Friday. During halftime at five college football conference championship games over the weekend, 10 finalists took the field to see who could throw the most footballs into an oversized Dr Pepper can in 30 seconds.
Idrogo graduated in 2020 from Earl Warren High School in the Northside Independent School District. He played for the Warren Warriors football team, mostly as a wide receiver with some time at quarterback.
The Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway has provided more than $13 million in tuition since 2008.
