Texas not even in top 25 in CPAC’S latest ranking
Last time the Legislature convened in Austin, Texas Republicans banned abortion, made it legal to carry a handgun without a license and passed new voting restrictions.
The Legislature sent so many GOP priorities to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk that he declared it one of the most conservative sessions ever.
Yet Texas didn’t even crack the top half of the most conservative legislatures in a new ranking by the Conservative Political Action Coalition’s Center for Legislative Accountability.
Texas landed at No. 26 on the list, which was based on the voting patterns of state lawmakers. Alabama, Tennessee and Indiana were the three most conservative. Massachusetts, Hawaii and Rhode Island were the least.
The analysis dinged Texas lawmakers for extending postpartum Medicaid benefits, prohibiting wholesale electric index plans and capping pre-k class sizes.
