A jury has sentenced Keith Darren Corley, 28, to 50 years in prison for the fatal shooting in 2021 of his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend at an East Side apartment.

Corley killed Delon Lamont Weaver, 24. The jury found him guilty of murder Wednesday and sentenced him Thursday.

San Antonio police investigating a shooting around 11:40 a.m. May 24, 2021, at the Antioch Village Apartments at 1514 Upland Road found Weaver wounded by gunfire on a sidewalk at the complex, according to a police report.

Corley had fled and investigators identified him as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Madison County sheriff’s deputies arrested Corley the next day, north of College Station and about 200 miles from San Antonio. Testimony in this week’s trial established that Corley went unannounced to visit his daughter at the former girlfriend’s apartment, ran into Weaver, her new boyfriend, and got into a fight with him. He pulled Weaver down a flight of stairs and shot him. A bullet in the back right shoulder hit an artery, and Weaver was pronounced dead at Brooke Army Medical Center.

A statement from the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said prosecutors presented evidence in the punishment phase of the trial of Corley’s prior convictions for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, robbery and terroristic threat of a family member.

“It is always a tragedy when young lives like Delon Lamont Weaver’s are lost,” District Attorney Joe D. Gonzales said in a statement. “Our trial team worked hard to ensure justice for him and for his family.”

Corley was represented by defense attorney Fernando Cortes. Assistant district attorneys Bridgett Clay and Zulema Patiño prosecuted the case in the 399th District Court, with Visiting Judge Michael Keasler presiding by appointment.

Corley will have to serve at least half of his time before he is eligible for parole. He will receive credit for 266 days served in the Bexar County jail.
