Churchill, Clark move into top 10

CLASS 6A

1. Reagan

Record: 5-0 (3-0 District 28-6A).

Previous ranking: 1. Next: vs. Madison, 2 p.m. Saturday, Comalander Stadium.

Notable: The Rattlers registered the second straight shutout (59-0) against LEE. The Rattlers have won their last three against Madison.

2. Steele

Record: 4-1 (0-0 27-6A). Previous ranking :2. Next: at New Braunfels, 7 p.m. Thursday.

Notable: The Knights have 11 straight wins against New Braunfels.

3. Johnson Record: 5-0 (3-0 28-6A). Previous ranking: 3. Next: vs. Clark, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Comalander Stadium.

Notable: The Jaguars and Reagan remain as District 28-6A’s only undefeated teams.

4. Harlan

Record: 6-0 (4-0 29-6A). Previous ranking: 4. Next: vs. Sotomayor, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Farris Stadium.

Notable: The Hawks haven’t allowed more than 200 yards in each of their last two games – Warren (45-7) and Stevens (42-7).

5. Brennan Record: 3-2 (2-1 29-6A). Previous ranking: 5. Next: vs. Warren, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Gustafson Stadium.

Notable: Nothing is coming easy for the Bears this season, but they are staying in the playoff chase. They scored 28 points in the second half to secure a 42-23 win against winless O’connor.

6. Jay

Notable: Jay is off its best best season since 2003 when the Mustangs won their first nine.

Notable: The Chargers rolled up a season-best 334 yards in a 29-13 win against former No. 8 Roosevelt to vault back into the top 10.

8. New Braunfels Record: 2-3 (0-0 27-6A). Previous ranking: 10. Next: vs. Steele, 7 p.m. Thursday, Unicorn Stadium.

Notable: The Unicorns, idle last week, move up two spots after Roosevelt and Madison losses.

9. Clark

Record: 4-2 (3-1 28-6A). Previous ranking: NR. Next: vs. Johnson, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Comalander Stadium.

Notable: The Cougars

vault into the top 10 for the first time this season after holding off Madison 30-28 for their third win a row.

10. Sotomayor Record: 4-1 (2-1 27-6A). Previous ranking: 7. Next: vs. Harlan, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Farris Stadium. Notable: The Wildcats suffered their first loss last week (37-15) and are in the midst of a brutal stretch. Sotomayor plays Taft next week and Brennan in two weeks. Dropped out: Roosevelt, Madison.

1. Smithson Valley Record: 4-1 (2-0 12-5A-I). Previous ranking: 1. Next: vs. Kyle Lehman, 7 p.m. Thursday, Shelton Stadium.

Notable: The Rangers continue their district title defense against a team that has never made the playoffs in 17 years of existence.

2. Alamo Heights

Record: 5-0 (4-0 District 14-5A-1).

Previous ranking: 2. Next: vs. Jefferson, 7 p.m. Friday, Orem Stadium. Notable: The Mules’ run through the district has been dominant with an average win of 48.8 points.

3. Boerne Record: 4-1 (0-0 14-4A-I). Previous ranking: 3. Next: at Uvalde, 7 p.m. Friday.

Notable: The Greyhounds open district play with their fifth road game.

4. Boerne Champion Record: 5-0 (2-0 12-5A-I). Previous ranking: 4. Next: vs. Seguin, 7 p.m. Friday, Boerne ISD Stadium.

Notable: The Chargers resume district play against one of the area’s most dangerous rushers – John Jackson, who had 1,089 yards and 14 touchdowns.

5. Wagner Record: 3-2 (1-1 12-5A-I). Previous ranking: 6.

Next: vs. Macarthur, 2 p.m. Saturday, Heroes Stadium. Notable: The Thunderbir­ds returned to the win column with a 42-14 win against Kyle Lehman two weeks ago.

6. SA Veterans Memorial Record: 3-2 (1-0 13-5A-II). Previous ranking: 8. Next: vs. Liberty Hill, 7 p.m. Friday, Rutledge Stadium.

Notable: Quarterbac­k Clinton Dixon, a converted receiver, rushed for 262 yards and five touchdown and passed for another score in the Patriots’ 49-42 overtime victory against Lockhart last week.

7. Antonian Record: 5-1 (0-0 TAPPS 2-I).

Previous ranking: 10. Next: at Central Catholic, 7 p.m. Oct. 13.

Notable: Antonian outlasted Somerset, 49-42, behind 555 total offensive yards. The Apaches get a break before facing their fiercest rival.

8. Kerrville Tivy Record: 5-1 (1-1 13-5A-II). Previous ranking: 5. Next: vs. Pieper, 7 p.m. Friday, Antler Stadium. Notable: The Antlers fell for the first time last week, 41-22, against Bastrop.

9. Southside Record: 5-1 (4-0 13-5A-I). Previous ranking: 7. Next: vs. Laredo Cigarroa, 7 p.m. Friday, Southside ISD Stadium.

Notable: The Cardinals needed a rally to get past one-win South San last week 27-26.

Notable: The Dragons have bounced back with big wins against Laredo Nixon (47-7) and Eagle Pass win (24-7) after losing to Southside. Dropped out: Somerset.
