Second arrest made in fatal shooting of man
Authorities made a second arrest in the fatal shooting of a 33year-old man at an East Side apartment in August.
Dmontrey Massengale, 21, was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder. His bail has been set at $250,000.
Massengale and Scottie Ferguson, 34, are accused of fatally shooting Eddie Edwards Jr., 33, at an apartment in the 1500 block of Upland Road on Aug. 8.
Police found Edwards in his apartment unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Brooke Army Medical
Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers found shell casings and “signs of a violent struggle” inside the apartment, according to an arrest affidavit.
Around the same time, occupants of a white SUV flagged down an ambulance in the 1300 block of Culebra Road near Woodlawn Lake Park on the West Side. Massengale exited the vehicle, and the driver left, according to the affidavit. He told police he had been shot at an apartment on
Upland Road.
At the hospital, Massengale gave statements that were inconsistent with surveillance footage from the apartment complex, according to the affidavit.
The footage shows Massengale, Ferguson and a third unidentified person arriving at the complex in a white SUV, according to the affidavit. Massengale and Ferguson are seen waiting by the stairwell leading up to Edwards’ apartment as the third person walks inside.
A few minutes later, Massengale
and Ferguson went up the stairs to the apartment, and Ferguson pulled on a white balaclava, a type of ski mask, according to the affidavit.
About 30 seconds later, the two men are seen running back outside and fleeing in the SUV while the third person leaves the apartment on foot, according to the affidavit.
Both Massengale and Ferguson admitted to police that they entered the apartment uninvited and did not know the residents in the apartment, states an affidavit.
Massengale and Ferguson remain at the Bexar County jail awaiting indictment.
