Stamped From the Beginning

This film is based on the acclaimed 2016 book by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, which chronicled the history of anti-black racist tropes and imagery, and how they were developed and enshrined in American culture. Director Roger Ross Williams’ documentar­y adaptation uses an innovative animation process that blends live action with the art of the era to illuminate figures and moments both well-known and obscure, historical and contempora­ry.

You can celebrate the film’s landmark anniversar­y by watching television weatherman Phil Connors stuck on Feb. 2, a day he must live over and over again. Somehow, this just doesn’t get old.

Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test FOX, 8 p.m.

The recruits are taken to a remote mountain range where they are tasked with pulling sleds through two miles of dangerous terrain in the new episode “Grit.”

POV: ‘Wisdom Gone Wild’ PBS, 9 p.m. (WTTW Chicago, 9 p.m.)

Described as a “vibrant cine-poem,” this film directed by Rea Tajiri tells the remarkable story of her mother, Rose Tajiri, a Nisei woman who, at the end of her life and following the onset of dementia, reinvents herself through her interactio­ns with her daughter/ care partner. She bestows a new name and identity on herself as she alters her past along with her present.
