City to open warming centers starting Sunday
San Antonio and Bexar County will open 11 overnight warming centers on Sunday as a biting cold front moves in.
Additionally, the city will keep 14 libraries and community centers open during the day Monday when other city facilities will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Monday’s low temperatures will be in the mid-20s, with a chance of freezing rain, according to Express-news meteorologist Anthony Franze. Temperatures will further drop late Monday into early Tuesday, when they will fall to the upper teens.
The overnight warming centers will have basic supplies on hand. Residents will be able to charge their electronic devices and access free Wi-fi. The six city-run centers will have kennels for pets.
The centers open at 9 p.m. Sunday and will remain open through 8 a.m. Wednesday. The locations are:

Northeast Senior Center, 4135 Thousand Oaks Drive
Southside Lions Senior Center, 3303 Pecan Valley Drive
Garza Community Center, 1450 Mira Vista
Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Road
Miller’s Pond Community
Center, 6175 Old Pearsall Road Lighthouse Church Temple, 8201 Old Pearsall Road Outerwest Community Church, 12280 Alamo Ranch Parkway St. Padre Pio

VIA Metropolitan Transit will provide free rides to passengers who alert the driver that they are going to one of these daytime warming centers.
