A former San Antonio Spurs player was charged with assault early Tuesday.

Bryn Jerrell Forbes, 30, was charged after police responded to call at his girlfriend’s Northwest Side apartment.

According to the arrest affidavit, police were called to the residence Monday for a disturbance. A 31-year-old woman told the officer that Forbes physically assaulted her in her apartment.

The woman said she has been in an “on/off relationship” with Forbes for the past 13 years and they share two children. Forbes has primary custody of their children at this time.

She told the officer that she recently relocated back to San Antonio and had moved into an apartment.

On Monday, the woman said she was asleep when she heard banging on her window. She said she determined it was Forbes, and once she allowed him inside, he immediately punched her in the head, the affidavit states.

Forbes then used his forearms across her throat to make it difficult for her to breathe, the woman told police, and he grabbed her by the shirt and pulled it over her head.

The woman said he grabbed the shirt collar and used it as a “tool to constrict around her neck.” The 31-year-old added that Forbes’ hands also were tightening around her neck, making breathing extremely difficult.

When she told Forbes she could not breathe, he said, “If you can speak, then you are not being choked,” the affidavit states.

The woman said she got away from Forbes and ran for help.

During the assault, the woman said, she felt nauseous and was currently “very sore” in the neck.

In February 2023, Forbes had a similar runin with police and was arrested on a family violence charge.

According to police, Forbes became upset with a woman he was dating. He was accused of hitting the woman several times, causing her to need medical assistance. The case was later dropped.

Forbes was a guard with Spurs from 2016-20. Following his stint in San Antonio, Forbes played one season with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he won an NBA championship in 2021.

He returned to the Spurs for half the season in 2022 before he was traded to the Denver Nuggets. Forbes last played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2023 before being released.

He is currently an NBA free agent.

Forbes was charged with assault of a family member by choking/ strangulation, a third-degree felony. His bail is set at $7,500.
