Officer: Texts admitting sex with minors ‘a fantasy’
A San Antonio police officer arrested last month on child pornography charges told a woman he’d had sex with several juveniles, according to an arrest affidavit.
Albert Sanchez, a 16-year veteran with the San Antonio Police Department, was charged with possession of child pornography in January.
A 34-year-old woman notified the San Antonio Police Department on Jan. 5 that Sanchez admitted to her that he was engaging in sexual conduct with juveniles, according to the arrest affidavit.
The woman, who was not identified, said she met Sanchez through her employment and began communicating with him through text messages. It was during several text message conversations between the woman and Sanchez that police say he allegedly admitted to having “multiple sexual encounters” with several juveniles, both male and female.
Sanchez, 38, provided specific details to the woman about the sex acts, the affidavit states.
On Jan. 8, a search warrant was obtained to seize and collect any cellphone in Sanchez’s possession. A detective located Sanchez inside his West Side home and collected two cellphones. While speaking to the detective, Sanchez admitted to communicating about engaging in sex with minors, but said “it was only a fantasy.”
A separate search warrant was obtained to download the information from the cellphone, and the affidavit states investigators found multiple images of nude prepubescent juvenile females, all of whom appeared to be less than 10 years old.
Sanchez was placed on administrative leave by SAPD and suspended without pay in January, pending the case outcome. He was booked into Bexar County jail on Jan. 12 but was released on bond; bail had been set at $75,000.
Additional charges have not been filed for Sanchez.
