Ex-judson teacher given 131 years in child porn case

- By Elizabeth Zavala

A former band teacher in the Judson Independent School District was sentenced to 131 years in prison after being found guilty of 20 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of possession with intent to promote child pornography.

Mark Daniel Mallow, 27, still faces two charges — possession with intent to promote child pornography and online solicitation of a minor under 14 — brought by police in Converse last summer after he had been free on bail for almost a year, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

State District Judge Christine Del Prado sentenced Mallow to six years in prison on each of the 20 counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. She added 11 years for the single charge of possession with intent to promote, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years.

Del Prado ordered the sentences to be “stacked” rather than served concurrently, so Mallow must serve the accumulated 131 years.

Mallow taught at Woodlake Hills Middle School in Judson ISD when he was first arrested Aug. 31, 2022, accused of uploading five files of child pornography to Snapchat.

The social media platform reported the explicit material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which then reported Mallow to police, the district attorney’s office said. “Sexual offenders who prey on our children will be prosecuted aggressively. They have no place in our society,” District Attorney Joe Gonzales said, according to the release.

“This defendant was just convicted and sentenced for some of the most vile and repulsive crimes known to mankind — the possession of pornography of infants. Part of the evidence included many images of babies and other defenseless young children being subjected to unspeakable sexual atrocities. Our thanks to Judge Del Prado for recognizing the severity of these horrific crimes and accumulating the sentences in this case.”
