Schedule includes new AAC member Army
UTSA on Thursday unveiled the eight-game slate of American Athletic Conference matchups the Roadrunners will face during their second year in the league, finalizing the 2024 football schedule.
The American is set to include 14 teams for 2024 following the addition of Army as a football-only member, and the top two teams in the league standings will meet in the conference championship game on Friday, Dec. 6.
The Roadrunners will not play road games in consecutive weeks during the league season. UTSA has an open date the weekend of Oct. 5 following the year’s fifth game and a second unused spot on the calendar Nov. 9, with three games to play in the regular season.
The Roadrunners play just one conference game against a team coming off an open week, as Rice and UTSA are both open ahead of their meeting Oct. 12.
Nine of the 12 games on the Roadrunners’ schedule will be played in Texas. UTSA plays at East Carolina in late September and at Tulsa in late October, not likely facing the potential for freezing temperatures until a late November matchup against Army in the regular-season finale.
UTSA has one Friday home game, against North
Texas on Nov. 15, with the potential for another at home the following week against Temple. The matchup against Temple may also be played Nov. 23.
Of the four other AAC teams that posted a winning record in 2023, the Roadrunners play just one in 2024. UTSA hosts Memphis (10-3) on Nov. 2 but will not face Tulane (11-3) or South Florida (7-6), while league champion SMU (11-3) is departing for a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
UTSA finished 9-4 in 2023, going 7-1 in league games and capping the season with the program’s first bowl win, beating Marshall 35-17 in the Frisco Bowl.
