Richard Gregory Waters

February 13, 1951 - March 10, 2024

Richard Gregory Waters, known to all as Greg (or to some high school buds as “Whitey,” owing to his hair color), was born Feb. 13, 1951, in Dallas and died March 10, 2024, in San Antonio. Greg received recognition as a multi-sport athlete at Alamo Heights High School, including All-city and All-state honors in football, and as a starting defensive back at Texas Tech. But Greg won’t be remembered most for those things. Above all, Greg loved Jesus and lived to share of His grace and mercy with virtually all who knew him, including long-standing friends and new disciples. He was a true inspiration to so many, right up to the end.

Greg was a successful businessman for most of his adult life, including owning and running a flower business with wife, Gina. Serious medical events that began March 8, 2008, shortened Greg’s business life, but his physical weakness unleashed renewed fervor for the Lord.

Greg was incredibly proud of his sons, Forrest (wife Adina), Logan (wife Lauren) and Preston, whom he raised to love the Lord and their families, and to treat everyone with dignity. Greg also is survived by Forrest and Adina’s kids, Macy and Micah, and his older brothers, Buff (wife Joan, sons Rick and Brad) and Steve (wife Jenger, son David and daughter Jill), and many beloved first and second cousins.

Greg was loved and supported for years by a host of friends, mostly from his AHHS Class of ‘69 but also from church, from The Towers Bible study group, and from various and sundry other sources. There are too many dear folks to identify and call out here (we will thank them privately). We do want to publicly thank Ana, Greg’s caretaker of almost 9 years, for her love and faithful service. Ana, you made as great an impact in Greg’s last years as anyone. Bless
