Free afternoon series at Stable Hall kicks off Saturday with lotería, music

- By Deborah Martin

Stable Hall is opening its doors Saturdays for a new free matinee series that will include live music by San Antonio acts, lotería and informal tours.

Sabor Sessions debuts this weekend. Doors open at 11 a.m. Saturday — folks are encouraged to get there early to score a table — and the games start at noon. Live music starts at 2:30 p.m. The first act in the series is the all-female cumbia band Sonora Hechicera.

Nonalcoholic beer, wine and cocktails, as well as snacks and such light fare as crispy dogs from Lala’s Gorditas, will be available for sale.

Influencer Gabby Gonzales is hosting the series kickoff.

Admission is free, but seating is limited, so reservations are required. They can be made at stablehall.com/calendar.

In addition, informal tours will be available from 11 a.m. to noon. It’s the only time that public tours of the distinctive building at Pearl are available. The space, which was built as a stable in 1894, has served a variety of functions over the years. It opened in January as a state-of-the-art music venue following a three-year transformation.
