Ageless Willie set to release new album
Willie Nelson still shows no signs of retiring.
The Texas singer-songwriter, who will celebrate his 91st birthday on April 29, has announced that he will be releasing anew album, “The Border,” on May 31. The album is his 75th solo set of new material and his 152nd album release overall.
The album features 10 songs, four of which are collaborations with songwriter/producer Buddy Cannon. The title track is Willie’s take on a Rodney Crowell tune that was first released on Crowell’s “Texas” album in 2019. The remaining tracks are from Larry Cordle and Erin Enderlin; Crowell and Will Jennings; Shawn Camp and Monty Holmes; and Mike Reid.
According to Billboard, the album also will include notes from Mikal Gilmore and photos from Pamela Springsteen.
If you want to get a taste of what’s in store, the title track is available on streaming services.
On top of that, Nelson is on the road again for much of this year. The first part of the tour starts April 17 in Lubbock, and then he plays several dates with Asleep at the Wheel opening and a couple with Robert Earl Keen in May at Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels.
That trek is followed in June by the touring Outlaw Fest with Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and others.
