Fiesta isn’t far away, but if you want that full festival experience — live music, food, carnival rides — this weekend, you’ll have to drive to Poteet.
Closer to home, there are smaller festivals devoted to guayaberas and the radio station KRTU.
FRIDAY
Poteet Strawberry Festival: For three days, Poteet is at its berry best, with food — including strawberry shortcake — and vendors, plus live entertainment on multiple stages and fireworks. Mike Birbiglia: Comedian and actor Birbiglia is bringing his new tour, “Please Stop the Ride,” to town. Birbiglia, whose most recent Netflix special is “The Old Man and the Pool,” made his name with his one-man show “Sleepwalk With Me,” which he turned into an award-winning movie and bestselling book. 7 p.m. today, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, 100 Auditorium Circle. $39-$69, tobi.tobin center.org.
Alicia Villarreal: Villarreal has been a mainstay on the regional Mexican music scene since her time as the lead singer of Grupo Limite. Last year, she released a solo album, “Desamor y Despecho,” as well as a compilation of solo and Limite hits, including “Besos y Copas” and “Yo Sin Tu Amor.” 8 p.m. today, Majestic Theatre, 224. E. Asking Alexandria:
rock band Asking Alexandria is touring with a new album, “Where Do We Go From Here?,” featuring the eclipse-playlist ready single “Dark Void.” The band has frequently played San Antonio as an opening act and on festival bills. Aterciopelados: One of the stars of the Rock en Español wave of the ’90s, the Colombian band Aterciopelados makes guitar-based indie rock with retro flourishes. “Fefu and her Friends”:
Cuban American playwright Maria Irene Fornés’ immersive play
revolves around a group of friends who gather in a home for a sort-of reunion. The audience and the actors move through five different performance spaces. KRTU Fest: Trinity University’s independent radio station moves its second annual local music festival from the Trinity campus to Pearl. North Mississippi Allstars: Luther and Cody Dickinson’s band is bringing its blend of blues and rock to town for an outdoor concert as part of the Live in the Garden series. 6 p.m. Sunday, San Antonio Botanical Garden, 555 Funston.
