Without developers on board, who would build our housing?
Re “Bry, Sherman raise questions about Gloria’s supporters in San Diego mayor’s race” (Feb. 16): San Diego mayoral candidate Barbara Bry, and everyone else who uses “special interests” to suggest “developers,” needs to understand who builds living spaces and associated infrastructure in San Diego, and everywhere else, for that matter.
The city of San Diego does not build low-cost housing, for example. If anyone does, it’s developers. It’s private parties who assume responsibility for construction loans, who pay substantial municipal permit fees (before they even cut dirt), who build the buildings, pay for the labor, and, in fact, build the city-required infrastructure.
Take the private money off the table and watch how many housing units get built. Leif Fearn San Diego
