“Connected: Two Artists, Two Coasts”
Reception 2 to 4 p.m. today; on display through April 22. La Jolla Library-riford Branch, 7555 Draper Ave., La Jolla. A new exhibit at the La Jolla Library on Draper Avenue features the work of two Schumachers, the mother-daughter team of Krista and Kathy. “Connected: Two Artists, Two Coasts” showcases artwork by La Jolla-based Krista Schumacher and her mother, Destin, Fla.-based Kathy Schumacher. Thirty pieces, from landscapes to florals to the abstract, are in the exhibit, which will be celebrated this afternoon with a free reception at the La Jolla Library-riford Branch. The duo’s works, many of which reflect coastal themes, have been exhibited across the country, including locally at the La Jolla Art Festival. Krista Schumacher, named to Southwest Art Magazine’s “Top 21 Under 31” list, has a palette knife style that is unique. Kathy Schumacher finds inspiration from her home state of Florida, “where I paint from my waterfront studio and am inspired by the Gulf Coast’s wetlands,” she says.
