The illustrious Broadway songwriting team of Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick premiered “She Loves Me” on Broadway in 1963. A year later, they returned with “Fiddler on the Roof,” which now looms so large in the musical-theater canon that the pair’s earlier work tends to get a little overshadowed. At San Diego Musical Theatre, though, a sharply performed and beautiful-looking revival of this bittersweet and funny show is reminding us of all there is to love about “She Loves Me.” The piece, about a pair of feuding shop clerks in 1930s Budapest who don’t realize they’re also each other’s romantic pen pals, bursts with humor and feeling. And while the songs may not be as familiar as those in “Fiddler,” they’re a pleasure to hear just the same.
