Padres 7, Reds 3

- JEFF SANDERS

Batter’s box: LF Jorge Ona hit a monstrous home run in the Padres’ five-run fifth inning, his first of the spring and his first since a shoulder injury ended his 2019 campaign at Double-a Amarillo. The 23-year-old Cuban, who signed for $7 million in July 2016 and was added to the 40-man roster this offseason, is 2-for-7 this spring. … 1B Jason Vosler also hit his first homer of the spring and drove in two runs in a three-hit game, and CF Abraham Almonte went 3-for-5 to lift his Cactus League batting average to .429. … RF Taylor Trammell went 2-for-4 against the Reds, who traded him to the Padres last July… SS Greg Garcia was 2-for-2, while 2B Brian Dozier was 0-for-3 and struck out twice. … C Austin Hedges went 1-for-2 with a walk.

Balls and strikes: LHP Matt Strahm threw 12⁄3 scoreless innings. He struck out one, walked one, hit two batters and allowed one hit. … RHPS Chih-wei Hu, Lake Bachar and Jerad Eickhoff all turned in a scoreless inning. … RHP Jimmy Yacabonis allowed a run in 11⁄3 innings, just the second run allowed by Padres pitching in their last four games until RHP Seth Frankoff allowed two runs in the eighth.

Extra bases: Travis Jankowski, traded to the Reds in October for international bonus money, doubled in the seventh inning but grabbed his left hamstring as he hobbled into second base and immediately exited the game with a trainer. A fractured right wrist last spring sabotaged Jankowski’s push to break camp with the Padres as a reserve outfielder.

On deck: LHP Joey Lucchesi will make his second Cactus League start at 12:10 pm PT (Fox Sports San Diego) in Peoria against the San Francisco Giants. RHP Emilio Pagan, RHP Javy Guerra, RHP Pierce Johnson and RHP Gerardo Reyes are also among the scheduled pitchers.
